His motor skills are similar to Caleigh's, and I found myself looking everywhere that I could for information that might help. By the end of the summer he was able to paddle in a tandem kayak, with a modified seat, and was making great progress in holding his own paddle :D

I am thrilled to hear that you are homeschooling Caleigh. She is such a bright wonderful girl, and no matter how good the teachers are and how well organized her school is no one will ever realize her needs as well as you.

I was homeschooled straight through to grade 12, and I could never thank my Mother enough. She originally made the decision because of my severe food allergies, but quickly realized that she had been 'teaching' me all along. So I guess we would be group two, with a bit of the health issues group?

It sounds like you are approaching homeschooling very well, by using unit studies and going at Caleigh's own pace. For any homeschooled child (Even a perfectly healthy one, with no extra challenges) there will be times when they seem to be falling behind in certain subjects, and leaping ahead in others. The best advice that I can give you as a life long learner, is to relax and provide her with as much opportunity as possible to study -what she wants to-. By the time that she is a young woman, it will all balance out. She will know everything that her peers do, plus some lovely interest lead extras.

Also reading aloud is probably one of the best things that you can do for any child. Read her picture books, novels, history, classics, and keep reading until she tells you not to. Books are one of the most valuable gifts that you can give someone. :)

This wound up being really long. Sorry. I wish you good luck in exploring the world, with Caleigh, because that is what learning is.

Christa C.

Holly, it sounds like mommy is learning some valua...

Holly, it sounds like mommy is learning some valuable lessons too! :)

And...Grade 3 math, go Caleigh!
