This post makes 159 entries to Caleigh's blog. I started out with a paper journal at 18 weeks of pregnancy when we got the diagnosis of Gastroschisis, but I found it hard to add the photographs I wanted. You know me, lover of all things photography...... Here is the very first entry I ever posted:
Gastroschisis

A few days after we got back from vacation our doctor called us and said that some of the blood-work that I had done before we left came back abnormal. So we went in and they did a sono. I was 18 weeks pregnant at the time. Our doc wanted us to go to see a high risk pregnancy Dr. So we had to wait 4 days not knowing really what was wrong. We went to the new doctor and she told us that our baby has Gastroschisis. Which is when the stomach is closing up, around 5-8 wks of pregnancy, and it doesn't close all the way leaving a hole with bowel outside of the belly. This isn't life threatening or a long term problem. They don't know what causes it either. It usually occurs in first time parents and young parents about 1 in 5000 births, but they just don't know what the cause is. Our baby will be born at least a month early if not sooner and it will go straight over to Cooks for surgery to put everything back inside and then to the NICU where it will stay for at least 4 weeks learning how to eat normally. Things have been pretty crazy lately, but we are staying really positive about everything. We have been shopping for nursery furniture and staying busy with everything baby! They think we are having a girl but aren't sure. Our little peanut isn't really cooperating. Our next appointment is on July 5th and I will let everyone know an update then.
I have been told numerous times that we should turn this blog into a book. I plan on doing something to that nature. Mainly for Caleigh to have something in print. If any publishers are reading this let me know....LOL.... No seriously, I do plan on making at least one copy.
This blog has been a therapy for me. Somehow putting all the details in writing, getting our story out there; has really changed how I feel about our new way of life. I think this is the best scrapbook anyone can have for their child. Can you imagine if I tried to go back now and remember everything that has happened! I can't even remember what went on the week before much less 6 mths ago!
After making it a year in the blog world, I think I will stick around a little longer. As long as Caleigh needs me too, and as long as I don't get a real therapist! Now, I think I will celebrate by staying in my pj's all day, playing with our baby girl and definitely staying out of the Texas heat.
Happy Blogoversary!

Happy blogoversary!
Happy B(log) Day! You have kept me smiling, laughing, crying and praying for the past year and I look forward to what the next will bring!
XOXO
Happy Blogoversary!!! I've never heard this word before but I like it! I just remember when the day we found out I was pregnant and when we had our first ultrasound we found out two things! First I was already 4 months pregnant (i've had no idea that ive been pregnant) and second, our son has a gastrochisis. They told us the same thing that they had told you, we were not too worried about it but we know our baby will stay in NICU for more than 3 months, I did a lot of research and found most of the babies with gastro had survived and lived longer. I had an easy pregnancy and i did the same thing I shopped till I drop! :)
Happy Blogoversary!
Also, diaper rash solution: get a prescription for Vusion. It has an anti-fungal in it, which is especially important/effective when babies are on big doses of anti-biotics (which I assume C. is on post-op.).
And congratulations on being home and prayers for a continued smooth recovery!

For me, this blog has been a window into Caleigh's journey and source of information I would never have studied. We, your family and other interested parties have deeply felt your anguish, disappointment, saddness, joy, hopefulness, resignation, and pride. Your baby will require a lot of attention and work, but what baby doesn't, so there.
God Bless You All,
Nana
Happy Blogoversary!!
I am so happy things are rolling along good. You have done a wonderful job blogging all of Caleigh's ups and downs she will appreciate this so much one day! What a great mommy you are!! I really hope the collodial silver and corn starch helps Caleigh feel better. You deserve to wear your pjs all week and enjoy your precious daughter. We are all still praying! God Bless all three of you!
Hi! Omg we have to talk! I know what you guys are going through. My daughter was born July 8th 2006 with short bowel. Reading over your blog brought me back to some emotional times! I would love to chat! Maybe somethings that I have learned could help! My prayers are with you guys!
Duh...lol might help to leave my email address!!!

BTW, you can get some pretty darn cute button down items from this site (featherbaby.com); most things go to 24 months. Bo's mostly into 2 piece outfits now, which I prefer for frequent diaper changing.
Cheers,

Hello I'm Tiffany,
I also have a baby boy that was born with GASTROSCHISIS(AIDAN). We also went through the surgeries. He just had his colostomy bag reversed on Oct.16. We are now struggling with the diaper rash. Considering he hasn't pooped and is 6 1/2 months old. I read your ideas and we are trying a few-i hope they work he is miserable. I also understand your feelings with the whole hospital stays- we did 4 1/2 months at first-battling surgery after surgery-back in forth from rooming in to NICU. It's an emotional roller coaster. If my son didn't have smiles to give out when I visited daily I wouldn't have held up I don't think. But to see him today I look back and see it was all worth it. We just got the GTube and we are working toward getting off home TPN if he can tolerate more than 5ml/h of his formula. Thanks for posting your home remedies-you never know who you might help through it. Thanks again.
